Fahad Akhlaq of Tokay reached the 49th Lions All-Star Game after just one season of high school football, a rapid rise that highlighted both how quickly he developed and how much upside coaches saw in him. After spending time away from sports, Akhlaq was convinced by friends to give football a try and eventually grew into a first-team All-SJAA defensive lineman.

Akhlaq said he originally joined for the experience and the gear, but fell in love with the sport once he started improving. He opened at different positions before settling at defensive tackle for the Tigers, where he played in eight games, finished with 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and helped Tokay navigate its first season in the San Joaquin Athletic Association.

The all-star selection gave him another chance to show how far he could go in football. For the North team, coached by Tony Franks of St. Mary's, Akhlaq said he had been working at defensive end during practice week. The North roster pulled players from the Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Linden, and foothill areas, while the South, coached by Jeremy Plaa of Downey, drew talent from Modesto south to Los Banos.

Looking beyond the Lions game, Akhlaq said he planned to continue at the college level and was leaning toward the junior college route, with Delta and Modesto among the options. He noted that while he had received an NAIA offer in Kansas, he wanted to bet on himself, keep developing, and see how far football might still take him.
