Football Rosters Released for 2024 Lions All-Star Game

Coaches and players were selected for the 48th Central California Lions All-Star Football Game, scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Tracy High School's Wayne Schneider Stadium. The game matched top graduated players from the Stockton side of the region against those from the Modesto side as the event continued its return after the COVID hiatus.

Alexander Metchikoff of Linden was named head coach of the North, while Roger Canepa of Central Catholic and Shaun King of Hughson were named co-head coaches of the South. The previous result had the South beating the North 38-13 behind MVP Joey Stout of Pitman, while the North still held the overall series lead at 26-18-2.

The banquet returned on April 13 at the Italian Athletic Club in Stockton, with Kevin John of ABC10 Sports appearing as guest speaker. Game tickets were set to be sold through GoFan at $15, while t-shirts, concessions, and game programs would be sold for cash at the site on game day.

Nine local players were also selected for the North roster. Tracy was represented by Aidan Van Os, Samear Lattier, and Maxwell Laird. Kimball had Darius Doyle, Jac Easthouse, Bodie Lychak, Junior Saavedra, and Isaac Tapelu, while Nehemiah Williams was the lone representative from Mountain House.

The updated MVP honors for the game included the Wayne Schneider MVP Award for the overall most valuable player, the Bob Mattos Defensive MVP Award for the top defensive player, and the Les Ratzlaff Offensive MVP Award for the top offensive player. Schneider, Mattos, and Ratzlaff were three of the coaches most responsible for launching the Lions All-Star Game in 1974.
